Custom Name Pillows

Full-length body pillows, in a fabric picked for the person, with their name stitched across the front.

What they actually are

Not a cushion. A pillow with their name on it.

These are full-length body pillows. The fabric gets picked around the person — their team, the film they will not stop watching, their school colours — and then their name goes across the front in letters Tawana cuts out and stitches on one at a time.

If you want photographs on it, she can do that too: a panel gets printed and sewn into the front of the pillow, so the picture is part of it rather than stuck on top.

  • Their name, in letters sized to the pillow
  • Fabric chosen round the person, not off a shelf
  • Photo panels printed and set into the front
  • Made one at a time, like everything else here
How one comes together

Four decisions, and then a lot of cutting out

There is no form to fill in for any of this. It all happens on the phone, and it takes about as long as describing the person.

A body pillow in team colours 1

Pick the fabric

Start with what they are into. A team, a film, a character, a colour, a school. This is the decision everything else follows from.

A name in white letters across a printed pillow 2

Give her the name

Spelled exactly as they spell it. The letters are cut out by hand and placed so the name still reads even on a busy print.

A printed panel sewn into the front of a pillow 3

Add photographs, if you want them

Send her the pictures and they get printed onto a panel and sewn into the front. This is the part people do not expect, and the part they remember.

Pillows she has made

Every one of these went out to somebody. Names and fabrics change; the amount of cutting out does not.

Where the two halves meet

A pillow is a basket’s best centrepiece

The pillows started as something soft to put at the back of a basket and give it height. People began asking for the pillow on its own, and now it is half of what she does — but the combination is still the thing she would steer you towards.

Say so when you call and she will build the basket around the pillow, rather than making the two separately and hoping they match.

Worth knowing

A few pillow questions

Can you put a name on it?
That is the whole point of them. The letters are cut out and stitched on one at a time, sized to the pillow and placed so the name still reads on a busy fabric. Give her the spelling exactly as they spell it — she works from what you tell her, and a pillow is not something you can unpick afterwards.
Can you put photographs on it?
Yes. The pictures get printed onto a panel and that panel is sewn into the front of the pillow, so it is part of the pillow rather than stuck on top. Send her the clearest copies you have — a screenshot of a photo prints like a screenshot of a photo.
Can you match a specific fabric, team or character?
Usually, yes, and it is where every pillow starts. Tell her what you are matching — a team, a film, a character, a set of school colours — and she will say on the call whether she can get hold of the fabric.
Can a pillow go inside a basket?
That is how they started, and it is still the combination she would point you at. Say so when you call and she will build the basket around the pillow rather than making the two separately.
How long does a pillow take?
Longer than a basket, because it has to be made rather than assembled — the fabric has to be found, the letters cut, and any photo panel printed before she can start. Give her as much notice as you can, particularly around the holidays and graduation.
What does a pillow cost?
Same answer as the baskets: it depends on the size, the fabric and whether there are photographs in it, so she quotes it herself. Call (423) 394-8569 and ask.
Ready when you are

Give her a name and a favourite thing.

That is the whole brief. She will tell you what it comes to on the call.
